Frequently Asked Questions

What is Intuition?

Intuition is an undergraduate academic journal which publishes original research, reviews, essays, theoretical treatises, and creative works which deal with psychology. All authors of published articles are psychology majors or minors who currently attend, or have attended BYU. Intuition is published two to three times a year, and is managed, edited, and designed by an editorial board composed of undergraduate students, a faculty adviser, and other faculty members who assist in the reviewing process.

Why submit?

The competition for acceptance to and success in graduate school is high for psychology students. Admissions committees frequently face the dilemma of choosing among many applicants who have similar accomplishments and and have taken similar classes. In order to be taken seriously in such a competitive environment, students have to set themselves apart. One way to stand out from the crowd is to publish while still an undergraduate. When submitting to Intuition, you will gain the experience of working a manuscript through the submissions process and, if it is publishable, through the editing process as well.

I am not a psychology major. Can I still submit?

Majors and minors outside of psychology are not allowed to submit. However, if the primary author is a psychology major or minor and the following authors are not, the paper can still be submitted.

I’ve submitted, now what?

After you submit your work, the Intuition board will edit your paper and decide whether to accept, ask for revisions before acceptance, or reject your paper. If your paper is accepted, it will be given to a professor for further revision. Depending on the professor’s remarks, your paper will either be accepted, we’ll ask for further revision, or your paper will be rejected. If your paper is initially in need of revision, the editorial board will return your paper with comments and suggestions to better your work. After you've made the proper revisions, your paper will be given to a professor for further revision where it will be accepted, in need of further revision, or rejected.
